The ending also felt very anticlimactic for me, especially considering the action we got in the second book. My biggest complaint of this series is that there are way too many characters with convoluted relationships to each other. We don’t see enough of Xander and Nash, and Max and Libby are basically not necessary for the plot. Avery is much more proactive in this book, but Jameson and Greyson seem to take a few steps back.

The writing is very addictive, and the short chapters made me feel very accomplished when I finished them. I thought that this was meant to be a duology, and after how convoluted The Hawthorne Legacy was, I didn’t have high hopes for The Final Gambit.īut I got really into it. In this game, there are hearts and lives at stake-and there is nothing more Hawthorne than winning. It soon becomes clear that there is one last puzzle to solve, and Avery and the Hawthorne brothers are drawn into a dangerous game against an unknown and powerful player.
